This unusual and attractive crown is a replacement for the standard crown on your flute.
It can be used with an existing old-fashioned cork+thread in place, with the swap stopper, or any other replacement stopper.
Adjustable weight, in various finishes:
- Polished bronze - for that glossy golden look and attractive acoustics.
- Sterling Silver - amazing contrast and sparkly when light reflects off it. Looks especially good on gold flutes.
- Gold Steel - An unusual almost "vintage" look, with an attractive texture, and mix of matt and polished facets.
- Bronze Steel - dark and moody
- Black Steel - a distinctive matt finish
- Solid Gold - 14k or 18k yellow gold. Contact us for rose and white gold options.
- 18k rose/red gold-plated brass - center rose in the picture. This highly polished brass item has been 14k rose gold plated. Rose gold is a particularly beautiful colour and compliments silver, platinum (or other silvery coloured metals) or rose gold headjoints particularly well.
- 18k Yellow gold plated brass - the traditional yellow gold look - a bright yellow. Leftmost in pic.
- Rhodium-plated brass - rightmost in the picture. Rhodium plating on the polished brass has a particularly deep and shiny finish - similar to silver but even shinier. Compliments any headjoint material really well.
- Black Rhodium-Plated brass - an unusual shiny deep black look!
These bespoke crafted crowns allow you to personalise your flute, or adjust its playing characteristics. It is a direct replacement for your orignal flute crown. The unique design allows this crown to fit on many flutes, so you can use it on multiple instruments or swap it to a new flute when you upgrade.
If you want a crown in another material (e.g. rose gold), plating (e.g. rhodium), finish or to fit a wooden headjoint, please get in touch.
They make great gifts for flute players for birthdays or Christmas.
These crowns are solid and strong but should be treated much like jewellery.
---
After removing (usually unscrewing) the old crown, these crowns push fit into the end of your headjoint tube. You need at least 8mm space between the top of your cork/stopper and the end of the tube for the new crown to push into. If in doubt, send me a picture of the end of your flute headjoint tube with your current crown removed.
Headjoint Compatibility
They fit all western concert flute headjoints (orchestral/band/student flutes in C) except Mancke (please contact me where I can custom fit one for these headjoints). So I can ensure a perfect fit I prefer if you take measurements of the inside diameter of your flute headjoint tube, at the crown end. Whilst most flutes are very similar, each has a specific taper and given this measurement I can set it up for you before shipping.
Any able flute technician or engineer can make this measurement for you using a vernier caliper. Please provide the measurement in millimetres. For example, on one of the headjonts in the main picture on the listing the internal diameter of the tube at the crown end is 16.5mm, and on another, it is 16.8mm. You can make some limited adjustment yourself too.
Each crown is made bespoke for you. The current lead-time is approximately 10-15 days, though occasionally I have stock ready to adjust and send out immediately.
Please note that sterling silver, bronze and brass will naturally tarnish over time. The item has been prepared like any good piece of jewellery, but may need re-polishing as the years go by. Try a gold or plated option if you want to avoid tarnish. Please note that all plated options need to be handled with care, like any plated jewellery. Hard wearing or deep scratches may erode the surface. Please treat these precious crowns with care, like you would the rest of your flute.
